The advantage of the leverage squat is that the machine give users room to adjust and perfect their squat technique, thereby minimising the risk of injury. At the same time, the lower back is subjected to less stress than in a traditional barbell squat.

The main purpose for this type of squat is to strengthen the musculature of the lower body including the quadriceps (front thigh muscles), the hamstrings (rear thigh muscles), the gluteus maximus (buttocks) and, to a lesser extent, the calf muscles and core stabilisers.
